ABOUT ME

Zachary Hagen is a Mississippi based fantasy author and teacher. He lives there with his wife, Claudia, and their dogs, Flynn and Bellaluna. When he isn't busy writing his next book or teaching, you can often find him at a great restaurant or reading a good book.

From a young age he was enthralled with the world of story. From the stories his parents read to him from his blue bedtime story books (if you know, you know) to the first two series that he read, The Chronicles of Narnia and A Series of Unfortunate Events, Zachary's tastes continued to develop throughout his years of reading.

The influences for his first series, The Eternal Chronicles, include Christopher Paolini, J. R. R. Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, and others.

  • Zachary Hagen does a wonderful job creating a fantasy world that feels real. It’s immersive, well planned, and innovative. His world-building skills shine through, and it will be interesting to see how that world is interacted with in future books in the series.

  • YA fiction doesn't generally capture my attention. Fantasy and science fiction generally do. This book contains all 3 genres, and bits of a few more. There's some mythology, religion, and mystery. The world that was built throughout the book was complex and vast. It reminded me of Middle Earth in some ways, and of the gigantic novel "Seveneves" in other ways...It's a well written and edited story, with a bit of something for almost everyone.

  • The author’s ability to coax the reader into a strange world by providing some grounding passages to which relating is eased is a signal that this young writer has the ability to succeed with his series. The apparent audience is the teen and YA group, though the ideas supported by the four ‘stories’ of this novel should appeal to a wider group. This is a strong debut novel by an author of interest.

  • The book is wonderful in its storyline, it keeps the reader captivated and looking for more. The author holds one and frankly you just don’t want to put the book down. My wife and I finished the book over a 2 week period and were both looking forward to seeing how the story progresses. I understand the author is young but his literary style is mature and fresh. This could be made into a movie. It’s a must read.
